The American Studies Program strives to create an academic climate that analyzes the beliefs, activities, and aspirations of the peoples of the United States. Students can choose from a variety of areas of interest, including but not limited to film, television, social media, popular culture, and historical perspectives.
As an interdisciplinary program, students are free to explore all that American culture has to offer–stories, technologies, globalization, and entrepreneurialism–from knowledgeable professors across the University. Recently, American Studies has partnered with the various Free Expression and Constructive Dialog (FECD) initiatives on campus, which are excellent opportunities to interact with fellow Niners. The American experience is one that has been full of exchanges of ideas, and this minor welcomes students from all majors to continue the nearly 250-year project of promoting freedom, democracy, and opportunity.
For more information, contact the Director of American Studies. For advising and program/curriculum issues, students should contact Dr. Nick Canada (ncanada1@charlotte.edu). Course questions should first be addressed to the instructor of record.
